Young Girls

“All the things you said to me that night. I never want to hear again.”

- Sixpack Backstab (Side A)

Working with the trio on their debut single was full of good times to say the least. It was an excuse to pick their brains about influences, drink some pints, and become friends. Upon first listen Young Girls is bright poppy/hooky-guitar rock but after a few listens you discover the layers of the emotions, harmonies, and darkness. I developed the concept for the packaging while joking who or what is the opposite of a “young girl(s)”…the answer: Jefferson Davis, former president of the Confederate States. The close-up crop of the image of his weather-beaten face, exaggerated facial hair, and dark time in our country’s history fit the bill of everything anti-young girl. And by adding the gritty texture of pointillism with faded pink helped create a hidden-in-plain-sight darkness that I wanted for the trio’s debut.
